Reconnecting

Nearly 20 people representing the countries of Mexico, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Chile, and U.S. joined in a video conference call led by International Consultant Bob Gurwell and Director of Operations Tom Nutt. The group prayed together and reported on their projects and progress since they met last year in Nicaragua.

One group is working on a short play in Ecuador and plans to get members of their church involved. Another group has made several short films for youth and is using a Solar Kit from GNPI to help share the Gospel in some remote areas of Mexico. Another is getting settled in the city of Queretaro, Mexico. Sergio Alvarado says, “We want to teach others what we have been doing to plant churches. We see media as the backbone, the suture which allows us to reach, teach, and disciple people in other cities with the Gospel. Media is important to us.”

Jacob Sanchez in Nicaragua says, “One year ago you planted a seed. We didn’t have any idea how to start. We took those ideas and used them in our churches, now we have a special audio visual room in our church. Thank you for the equipment you sent us. We have been using it. We have plans to do more projects and to train others. You encouraged us to start. We are working on music, documentaries, and movies. You are like a light in our lives for these matters.”

Valeria Lopez says, “We work in a ministry which is helping to fight sex trafficking. The videos help us to communicate the severity of the problem. We need to wake up and realize we must do something about it. To preach the Gospel, we have to be concerned with how our children are suffering right now.”

Eneyda Sanchez of Nicaragua says, “We are also working with Valeria on a series about human trafficking called In Reverse. It begins with the consequences of a bad choice and works backward to help viewers consider where some choices may lead them.”

Norka Stover is originally from Venezuela, worked in Mexico, and presently works with Hispanics in the U.S. She has helped some of the groups with script writing and says, “It’s a joy to help in anyway that I can.”

John Reece of Puerto Rico says they have created three dramas and two musicals for the radio, which were a big hit. We used them in the local church along with several GNPI videos. John says they are using a Solar Kit and may begin using it in the neighboring country of Haiti as well. He is pleased with what he’s been able to do with media and is pushing forward.

Habacuc Diaz from Chile says, “We invested our time in Christian worship music for our churches by working with local artists. We also produced micro documentaries on social issues to assist organizations helping homeless people in our city. In addition, we created materials to help teach the Bible in area churches. We are praying for God to send more people for our team.”

Luis Escutia, works in Mexico City, made the following videos with his cell phone since the Nicaragua meeting.

Now he has a Nomad Kit from GNPI.

Tom Nutt said, “Thank you for letting us be part of the work you are doing to share God’s salvation with the world. Let’s continue to share what we are learning. I look forward to the day we can stand before God and worship and glorify Him for what He has allowed us to do on earth.”

Executive Director Mike Schrage said, “We’ve prayed for open doors in Central and South America, and God is answering that prayer.”
