Reaching Out to the Pokot Community

Reaching Out to Pokotby Protus Sibukule of the NOMaD team in Eldoret, Kenya

The Eldoret, Kenya, NOMaD team works with many pastoral communities such as the Pokot, Tugens, Marakwets, and Turkanas. These communities move from one place to another in search of pasture and water. Because of these movements, there are a lot of inter-community conflicts and cattle rustling – wars over cattle.

We had a burden to reach these people, so we decided to take evangelism to these war-torn areas. Initially, the journey was rough. Yet, because we had a passion to reach these communities, we did not lose heart. With the help of a GNPI Solar Kit, we started showing Christians films, which were a great help to us. Our message centered mainly on Jesus Christ as the “Prince of Peace.”

Because of God’s goodness and grace, we have seen many people change their hearts and accept the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. One day, we baptized more than 75 people – praise Jesus!

As the number kept increasing, we eventually planted our very first church in Pokot. Up to this day, project NOMaD has helped us reach more areas with the Message of Christ. Hundreds of souls have been rescued from the power of darkness into the kingdom of light. We thank God so much for allowing us to be his vessels in ministering to the Pokot and the surrounding communities.

Today, we have planted more than six churches in these regions! Glory to God!

Generally, inter-community conflicts have drastically decreased. Communities now meet together with the church and solve their problems amicably with love. In addition, some cultural practices are beginning to change. The Pokot community is well known for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Because we have been able to empower innocent girls with information, hope has emerged. More girls are receiving education and see a path to opportunity. Young boys, who were being trained as warriors, have also gone to school. We thank God so much for his great love for the people of Pokot.

Thank you so very much for your kind and generous hearts. We appreciate your continued prayers and support so much. God bless you more richly with his heavenly blessings!
