My Turning Point
Stephen Muturi of GNPI-Mbale, Uganda, shares this powerful testimony of how God used a simple GNPI filmstrip shown on a Solar Kit to convict George’s heart and transform his life.
George from the Church of Christ in the Bulambuli District of Eastern Uganda
I chose to follow Christ because of what I had seen Him do in my wife’s life. My marriage was a sad one. After years in the army, I was fired. Emptiness descended on my life, and I needed something to fill that gap.
What followed were many nights away drinking, quarrels at home, and total neglect of my children. This went on for a few years. During all of this, my wife gave her life to Jesus. Of course, this did not sit well with me. Even with my determination to make her miserable, deep down I started asking questions of myself. In contrast to my misery, her life seemed purposeful. She would say good things, pray for me, and always invite me to join her in church.
Her persistence touched my heart. I decided to give the church a try. It so happened that the pastor was speaking about marriage when I first attended. Later, they showed a Swahili film, Ndume Halisi (Real Man), on marriage. This was my turning point. I made more visits to church, and the pastors spoke with me. The film convicted my heart. I could see myself in the main character.
This is my fifth year as a Christian; my life is changed for the better. My commitment to Christ and the church is strong. I am grateful to God for the blessing of a wife who has ministered to me. She is my rock, and thanks to the film I watched, our relationship has never been better.
