Cubanotics was a successful, secular hip-hop band in Kenya, East Africa. Eventually they turned their lives over to the Lord and have dedicated their musical talents to reaching young people with the Good News of Jesus Christ. The result has been that Cubanotics is now a successful Christian band! The most popular song from their first album, God First, is called Tabasam, which means, "smile." It is a song laden with hope and courage.
Tabasam has rapidly become very popular on radio and television throughout East Africa and beyond. An example of its power to touch young hearts is exemplified in the story of Sigrit, a young woman who was invited to act in the music video. After meeting the group, working with Christians, and hearing the words to the song, she gave her life to the Lord. That's the hope of the Cubanotics band and their producers, Good News Productions International - Africa: to reach as many "Sigrits" as possible, because "once you know the truth, the truth will set you free"!
Tabasam is in Swahili and can be played with or without English subtitles (4:45 mins.). Also included on the DVD is a video of the Making of Tabasam, which includes insightful interviews with many of those involved in its production (8:52 mins.).
