Wars and Rumors of Wars

“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed.” You know the verse. We can find it in Matthew as well as in Mark. There have been wars and rumors of wars throughout time, and it’s always scary. It’s especially scary when it’s close to you, or someone you love.

There are wars between countries or tribes, civil wars within countries, drug wars, the war on terrorism, the war on Christian values, Spiritual warfare, and even wars within our homes.

To warn you, there are some graphic images in this video. Many times we look away and forget or ignore the fact that this is real life for someone. We hope you will use this powerful video as a reminder to pray for peace, and to pray for countries and regions experiencing violence.

Our God still reigns.
Nothing surprises him.
Nothing will knock him off his throne.
Nothing will stop his plans for you.
Nothing will separate you from his love.

Together let’s ask him to bring peace and healing into our world, into our homes, and into our hearts.

Pray for Kenya

Kenya is a beautiful country, rich in colors, music, and history. Kenyans are strong and have endured much. More than 1.6 million people are living with HIV/AIDS and more than 60% of the population is 25 years old or younger.

The regional center in Kenya produces material that is culturally relevant and much of it is geared toward young people. Their music videos are even being used in the school system through a partnership with Kenya Institute of Education, who have been a backbone in Kenya’s education for many years.

This video will allow you a look at some of the beautiful people of this country and help you pray for this nation.

Pray for Thailand

Thailand is a country of vast beauty and extreme spiritual darkness.

Glorious beaches, rich green landscapes, and colorful costumes lend their beauty to this country. However, there is another side to this nation, a dark side that includes human trafficking and forced labor.

Ninety-four percent of the people there are Buddhists.

Tom Silkwood, regional director for GNPI-Thailand, says that in the many years he has worked in Chiang Mai as a missionary, he has never seen God moving as he is seeing today. Because of what he is seeing, Tom and his staff are producing a series called, Movement Everywhere. The first few episodes have been shown on a cable TV station and were recently featured on a college campus during the morning sessions of a conference held there. More than 2,000 students, staff, and visitors saw and heard about God’s active involvement in churches and organizations.

Please pray for Thailand. Pray that the people there will seek the one true God, because we know that God says, “seek and ye shall find.”

Was THAT Spanish??

Project NOMaD Coordinator Jason Miller has a great heart, but his Spanish leaves much to be desired. It is evident in this funny video clip, cultural relevance really is important. We don’t want to produce materials for Chileans to use in ministry, we want Chileans producing what will be best understood in their context!

The short clip below is from a video that was shown to 30-40 pastors in Chile, South America. Greg Fish, a new staff member in Joplin, actually grew up in Chile, so you’ll see him on the video speaking fluently and being a bit more culturally relevant! The goal of the whole 4-minute version was to help spark connections between these pastors and the NOMaD team in Santiago. Since Chileans culturally have a great sense of humor, we wanted to make them laugh in the process.

Even if, like Jason, you don’t understand Spanish, you’ll laugh as you watch him try to say the Spanish lines Greg is feeding him.

This may be a light-hearted and funny story, but the progress and expansion of project NOMaD is no laughing matter. The potential for exponential growth is very exciting! Chile is just one new place where we are equipping and training nationals to use media for God’s glory.

Please join us in praying for the ever-growing and evolving NOMaD initiative.

Pray for India

India has a population of more than 1 billion people, more than 4,600 people groups who speak more than 1,600 languages. The main religion in India is Hinduism, with Islam coming in second.

The two regional centers and the brand new NOMaD teams in India have their work cut out for them. In less than two years, they have produced The Global Gospel in 6 languages. They have distributed The Global Gospel DVD’s in 17 states reaching over 60,000 people.

By the end of 2014, they anticipate that they will be able to reach almost 1 million people as they produce more languages and expand from DVD to include social media and mobile App distribution.

Please pray for the country of India to be receptive to the Gospel.

“Take My Life and Let it Be.”

Thank you for continuing to pray for our coworkers in Ukraine. As you know, the political climate in Ukraine is making day-to-day life uncertain for many. Our team, however, continues to press on. They have just completed a new music video. It is one of a series they are preparing to share classic hymns with the people of their region. We think the video exemplifies a calm peace that can be found only in Jesus. You may not understand the words, but enjoy this arrangement of the classic hymn, “Take My Life and Let it Be.” Enjoy.

Pray for Uganda

Even though Idi Amin’s dictatorship over Uganda ended in 1979, the pain and scars left by his rule run deep. This man is known in history as one of the most brutal and murderous rulers of all time. Uganda is healing, but this nation needs our prayers.

  • Only 4% of the population is over the age of 55.
  • 1.5 million people are living with HIV and AIDS.
  • 12 million people do not have access to a safe water source.
  • 18 million people have no sanitation services.

However, there is hope! The spiritual horizon is bursting with opportunities. GNPI opened a regional center in Mbale, Uganda, in 2010. In the four years that center has been operational, partnerships have been formed with a passionate team of missionaries, as well as with two local colleges. GNPI-Uganda is working side by side with these educational institutions to train and create resources for Ugandan Christians to use as they bring hope to their people.

Join us in praying for Uganda.

Pray for Mexico

Mexico is home to one GNPI regional center and one NOMaD team. These teams of dedicated Christians are working hard to create culturally relevant media that will bring the Good News of Jesus to their people.

GNPI-Mexico launched an Internet radio station last fall, and it is gaining traction. They have recently added a live, evangelistic program that airs from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They are having such a good response and hope to add another day soon. If you would like to tune in online, here is a link:

Please feel free to share that link with your Spanish-speaking friends!

We want to offer this video to you to help you to pray for Mexico.

Praying for Ishmael’s Tribe

Have you visited the Prayercast Website? If not, you should take some time and look around. The videos there are free to download and they would be a fantastic resource for your Sunday school class, mission team, or entire church.

This video is not linked to a specific country, but the “people group” who are the descendants of Ishmael. The prayercast Website page that is home for this video starts out with the following:

“Despite birthing many of the earliest Christian churches, the Middle East and North Africa have endured centuries with little or no access to the Gospel. Today, four of every five Muslims – 20% of the world’s population – have never heard the Good News of Jesus Christ.  It is estimated that only 10% of missionaries are working among Muslims, with some estimates as low as 1%. This translates to roughly one missionary for every 1 million Muslims.  And yet despite all this, recent decades have seen an unprecedented Christian witness among the Arab world.  More Muslims have become followers of Jesus Christ in the last 25 years than in the previous 1250 years!”

Watch this prayer video, and then click here if you would like to read the rest of the information about the tribe of Ishmael.

We here at GNPI consider you family – that is why I’ve invited you into my living room to share with you the growing vision of GNPI. This is God’s ministry, and he is taking us to exciting, and sometimes scary places. We have strapped ourselves in and we are hanging on. You know the saying, “It takes a village?” Well, that is really talking about raising a child – but you could use that same phrase to describe what it takes to move this ministry forward. We are truly thankful for the partnership you’ve entrusted us with.

Here’s the last installment of the GNPI Living Room Sessions. Thanks for hanging out with me and listening.
