Winter 2016 Prayer Report

Join us as we praise God for our ministry partners and for His answers to our prayers
season after season.

“Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”— Psalm 62:8 (NIV)

Sharing the Gospel in Sign Language: Gustavo Velázquez of GNPI-Piedras Negras, Mexico, says, “Pablo and I travelled to the city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, along the border of Brownsville, Texas, to begin production on three projects with the cooperation of With My Hands ministry led by Jesus and Michelle Zuniga. God is using this couple to give hope in Christ and a better way of life to the deaf people in Matamoros. We started with recordings of 15 lessons from The Global Gospel in sign language. It is impressive to see how excited the deaf people were to participate in this project. One of them told us she was very happy because she wants to help other deaf people to know God’s love through these videos.”

Moved to Action: Gustavo Velázquez of GNPI-Piedras Negras, Mexico, writes, “We finished a new video about a ministry partner in Nicaragua who works with women who have survived human trafficking. It is an inspirational video to motivate action in service to our God, and it is the first video in our new series From Words to Deeds.

Africa

National Security: Isaac Masiga of GNPI-Nairobi, Kenya, writes, “Praise the Lord! The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government and the Kenya Faith-Based Media Group, which is comprised of 42 broadcasters nationwide, had three successful live broadcasts from our studio during the month of September. We had a panel of reputable leaders in the government and clergy, as well as other faiths, speak about issues dealing with security of the nation from a faith-based perspective. An article about the broadcasts was published in one of the leading newspapers in the country.”

partnership

Fifty Decisions for Christ: Stephen Muturi of GNPI-Mbale, Uganda, writes, “Thank you for sending the two Solar Kits and spare pieces of equipment we requested. We tested them, and the new speakers are very good. These will greatly improve our efforts in the field where evangelists report at least 50 people have accepted Christ in the last two months.”

Asia

Understanding the Gospel Clearly: Timothy P. of GNPI-SE Asia shares the testimony of a man who was helped by GNPI resources. The villager said, “I am thirty-nine years old. I am a Buddhist. I regarded Christianity as a false religion until this evangelist visited our village and shared about the true and living God. After I heard the Message from this evangelist, I realized what I have heard about Christianity was totally wrong. I came to understand clearly that the only true God is Jesus Christ, and Jesus gave His own life in order to pay for our sins and rose again.”

Producing New Lessons: Nenette Pacoli of GNPI-Manila, Philippines, writes, “We are excited to release our latest Say It Forward lessons. In this new episode Dr. Joanne Gallardo continues her amazing love story. Pray these lessons will greatly impact godly relationships in our culture.”

Improving Distribution: Gayle Silkwood of GNPI-Chiang Mai, Thailand, says, “Pray we know how to distribute all of the wonderful materials our team has created. They are available on a YouTube page. We may try a Facebook page. Pray for me as I readjust to life in Thailand. Thank you for your prayers.”

Europe

A joyful retreat: Sergei Golovin of GNPI-Eurasia writes, “We took a trip and held a retreat with a couple of displaced families. We visited other displaced families on our way sharing books, clothing, love, comfort, hope, and encouragement. Please pray with us for those in Ukraine who left their homes, as well as for the end of the war and restored justice! Pray for us as we share the Message of the Lord’s ultimate justice! We believe the Lord will use every situation for His glory. We just have to keep listening to Him with faith and patience.”

A Passion for Evangelism: Manee Massey of GNPI-Damoh, India, writes, “Our staff has been busy recording a sermon series from a preacher who is working in the small house churches of Jabalpur villages with nearly 1,400 people. He has a passion for evangelism and requested our help. We have also been working on a cable TV program with several other preachers. Pray that God will use these messages to strengthen believers to share the Truth with others.”

Project Nomad Updates

Last Piece of the Puzzle: Praise the Lord! Project Nomad Coordinator Mark Allen reports that 24 Christian workers participated in the regional training in Togo. Kpowbie Daniel, a ministry partner from Community Health Education and organizer of the event said, “I think this training is going to bring a tremendous change in the way we have been working for the Lord. I think everyone was waiting for this. It was like the last piece of the puzzle.”

Home from Hong Kong: Project Nomad Coordinator Mark Allen provided a regional training in Hong Kong this fall. Please pray for the Lord to help these Christian workers to communicate clearly and to multiply their efforts to share the Gospel as they use what they learned.

Overall Ministry

International Director: Please join us in praying that God would send the right person to serve as our international director and work closely with our growing network of regional centers and Project Nomad teams.

Communicating Well: A Christian worker in South Sudan writes, “I lead a team of 10 adults working to plant churches among the unreached Laarim people of South Sudan. This is a relatively small people group of approximately 11,000. Currently, there are only a handful of Laarim believers, most of whom live elsewhere, and no churches. We use the Solar Kit with adults and children. It communicates well with our Laarim audience. Thanks for your support in spreading the Gospel in South Sudan!”

Remote Access: Bob and Pam Hudson of Mexico Medical Missions write, “We work with a mission hospital in the Sierra Madres of Mexico. Last year, we met two GNPI team members. While we were talking about our ministry in very remote villages to the Tarahumara Indians, the GNPI staff offered to give us the Solar Kit they had with them. We took it with us and gave it to a missionary friend who lives in a village off the main road two hours by car (traveling at a speed of about 8 mph) and then another two hours on foot. Obviously, there is no electricity or any other kind of convenience. This friend loves the Solar Kit and is able to tell Bible stories like never before. Thank you so much for you help.”

The GNPI App: Praise the Lord for new resources to help believers tell the Gospel story effectively! Download The GNPI App to see how the Good News is shared throughout the world. It is available from The Apple Store or Google Play Store.

The Global Gospel Update: We praise the Lord for the 27 completed language versions of The Global Gospel, which can be viewed online. There are 10 additional versions in progress. We recently divided the 88 stories into 107, so some of the longer segments could be more easily adapted for various applications on mobile devices. To date, nearly 17,500 people have completed plans and tracks incorporating the videos from The Global Gospel on their favorite app.

I Will Not Be Silent: Isaac Masiga of GNPI-Nairobi, Kenya, writes, “Pray for wisdom in the initial stages of a new partnership with the Kenya Faith-Based Media Group. It consists of faith-based broadcasters including Islamic networks. The group identifies with the relevance of our Public Service Announcements (PSA) and wants to partner with us to produce content between September 2016 and Feb 2019. The focus is on a national security/cohesion campaign theme, Sinyamazi, or I will not be silent. We have already re-edited one of our PSAs to fit into their campaign strategy.”

Impressive Response: Stephen Muturi of GNPI-Mbale, Uganda, writes, “We were invited by a Christian high school teacher to visit one of the biggest Christian Union fellowships in Mbale. For two days we showed Tough Choices, Promise of Love, and Unshackled, which are videos about drugs, peer pressure, and sexual purity. The response was impressive. Over 200 students came for these two days. Two girls responded to a call to give their lives to Jesus. The pastor was so impressed by the videos that he asked us to work out a plan for similar partnerships in the future. We are praying God will use this opportunity to reach hundreds of youth.”

New Training Center: Praise the Lord for his faithfulness and the cooperation of several ministries to reach this goal. Timothy P. of GNPI-SE Asia helped dedicate a new training center this month. We look forward to watching how the Lord will use this facility to prepare many effective leaders to reach SE Asia with the Gospel.

Working, Brainstorming, and Praying: Nenette Pacoli of GNPI-Manila, Philippines, writes, “We are preparing for another taping of Say It Forward. We are also brainstorming about the best way to present the next episode of WWJD on respecting authority. It seems especially important now that we have a new president. Please pray God would refresh our minds with bright ideas for WWJD. Our board members are making initial preparations for a Nomad training event in our country as well.”

Hard at Work: Gayle Silkwood of GNPI-Chiang Mai, Thailand says, “Please pray for the Thai team. While I’ve been visiting family and renewing my visa, they have been hard at work gathering testimonials, stories of God’s work, and Bible teachings from three different areas surrounding the northern Thailand office base. They traveled to the country of Laos to the east, a mountain tribal children’s home in the north, and the large metropolis of Bangkok to the south.”

Daniel School: Sergei Golovin of GNPI-Eurasia writes, “We have joined a very exciting project called Daniel School. Its purpose is to train selected teenagers to be strong leaders. The program involves studies of Scripture, apologetics, logic, rhetoric, sports, camping, hiking, rafting, and teamwork. Our part is to provide academic content for the program. All sessions are broadcast online. I was especially touched by a group of seven young people who followed us online from the war zones in this region. May the Lord keep them safe and protected! Please pray for this project and for these devoted youth. They are the future of the Church and of this nation.”

Networking With A New Generation: Lena L. of GNPI-Eurasia writes, “This summer we are digitizing our resources and updating our website. This month we plan to help with two photo camps at the retreat center as we work alongside photo and video specialists. Join us in praying that we will be able to build ministry partnerships and network with the young people who are coming to the photo camps.”

India

Sharing the Message with New Voices: Manee Massey of GNPI-Damoh, India, writes, “Praise the Lord for giving us the chance to share the Gospel through new avenues. Our staff is editing several messages and songs by a former Hindu high priest. The staff is also meeting to discuss the scripts for a series on family since we’ve hired a professional scriptwriter. We hope to broadcast the series on several TV networks.”

Project Nomad Updates

Inspiring Visit: Mark Allen conducted Project Nomad training in two cities in Ukraine this month. Mark says, “It is inspiring to see how the country has come together after the sacrifices of those who died in the 2014 protests. The result has allowed the Gospel to be shared without being monitored or repressed for the last couple of years.”

Ukrainetraining

Pressing On in Pachuca: The team in Pachuca has launched a new website and Facebook page. Both sites are gaining momentum as the team members work hard to create new videos. Team leader Sergio Alvarado attended an advanced Nomad training in Indianapolis, Indiana, with another Nomad team leader, Habacuc Diaz, from our team in Chile. The Lord worked it out for the two of them (and a couple others) to meet for training with Nomad Coordinator Mark Allen.

Thanks for praying with us about the electricity for the church building where the team has an office. Praise the Lord as the electricity issue has been resolved.

Overall Ministry

We praise the Lord for the 24 completed language versions of The Global Gospel, which can be viewed online. There are 18 additional versions in progress. We recently divided the 88 stories into 107, so some of the longer segments could be more easily adapted for various applications on mobile devices. To date, nearly 12,000 people have completed plans and tracks incorporating the videos from The Global Gospel on their favorite app. Click on the icons to view the discipleship plans.

An Amazing Help: Joshua V., a Christian worker in India, says, “Praise the Lord! The Solar Kit has been an amazing help in our ministry. It is hard to communicate the Message to the tribal people of India unless you visualize it. Visualization greatly increases the level of understanding for the audience. It makes a huge impact when people see video clips of the crucifixion and how Christ suffered for our sins.”

International Director: Please join us in praying that God would send the right person to serve as our international director and work closely with our growing network of regional centers and Project Nomad teams.

“The Global Gospel” in Indonesia

John Mulkey of the Christian Church Theological School of Indonesia (CCTSI)

I had the opportunity to stop by the GNPI Joplin office to meet the staff members several months ago. I showed them pictures and a video of our newly completed recording studio. I asked them to listen to some test recordings to check the quality as we prepared to record the audio for The Global Gospel.

Here are a few recent photos I took of the students working in the CCTSI studio.

We are excited about our partnership with GNPI to produce The Global Gospel for Indonesia.

Encouraging Results

TGG GlobeYouVersion, Campus Crusade, and individual Christian workers all report the power of the simple biblical narrative of The Global Gospel (TGG) in local languages.

Garden

Executive Director Mike Schrage met with a man working in North Africa among Muslims who is using one version of TGG in their region.

Shepherd

They are using The Global Gospel (TGG) in their web and Facebook campaigns. Before they started using media to enhance their ministry, they had 400 contacts in the previous 3 years. In the last year they’ve had 1,200 contacts. One man responded to TGG one day, read the book of Matthew the next, was baptized the next, and healed a man through prayer the next. Praise the Lord! The Christian worker said, “What I like is the ability to take the same product and reuse it in multiple languages. If you have the pieces, you can make it powerful in a lot of different ways.”

Lazarus

Now complete in the world’s most widely spoken languages, TGG will be even more widely available as other languages are included. In addition, it’s going to change shape! We’re responding to requests to prepare versions of these simple stories for broadcast on television in places we never thought of and to move it via popular means like WhatsApp!

We hope you will be encouraged to see the results of your prayers and funding.

Music, Meetings, and Mentoring in Mexico

Gustavo Velázquez, Regional Director of GNPI-Piedras Negras, Mexico

Our staff completed two new music videos. The first is Tu Voluntad (Your Will)

Jochyphoto

and the second is Laberinto (Labyrinth).

These videos were recorded in Chicago by Jochy D. & Band. They can be viewed on Vimeo, YouTube, and our main website at www.buenasnuevasradio.com.

We have also been involved in several significant meetings and mentoring opportunities. First, our coworker, Pablo, made a short tutorial on How to Create a Production with Mobile Equipment. We have shared this tutorial with our network created after a regional meeting in Nicaragua and on social media.

Next I’ll be doing a video tutorial about basic graphic design, and my son also created a tutorial on camera angles during his internship in Joplin this summer.

We are moving forward with plans for a sign language version of
The Global Gospel (TGG) in cooperation with a local ministry to deaf people. The audio for TGG is available on our website, so the audience can listen and download it. We have also created a channel exclusively for TGG videos on YouTube, and the audio is accessible to download from this channel as well.

A few weeks ago I was invited to participate in a Youth Summit in Monterrey, Mexico, and had the chance to talk about the + Vida app with more than 300 young people. I shared the benefits of the app and how it can help them in their spiritual growth. We made a promotional video of the app to share at the event and on social networks.

Another project we are working on is a series of lessons on marriage with Pecos and Linda Inchaustegui.

We pray our work will reach more people for Christ and encourage others in their faith.

The Prazor App

Screen Shot 2016-04-18 at 11.02.49 AM

It’s a new app called Prazor, and it works on all devices. Our English version of The Global Gospel (TGG) is currently included in the app, and the Spanish version may be uploaded next.

Prazor debuted at the National Religious Broadcasters meeting a couple months ago. This brand new app is powered by Flowing Streams. The creators have a radio program, so there is an audience waiting for their content.

The Global Gospel is a series of short videos presenting the life and teachings of Jesus using colorful illustrations and dramatic Bible readings. It is completed for:

Africa (African French, Arabic-Ketab El Hayat, Arabic-Smith/VanDyke, Luganda);

Americas (English, Spanish);

Asia (Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Malayalam, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Nepali, Lisu, Cantonese, Min Nan, Thai, and Mandarin Chinese);

Europe (Bosnian, Crimean Tatar, Russian, and Ukrainian).

Versions are also being produced in Burmese, Swahili, Asho Chin, Farsi, and Indonesian, Creole, French, German, Gonja, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Japanese, Javanese, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

GNPI is excited to use the Prazor app as one of many distribution methods for each TGG language to make the story of Christ available to everyone.

Obedience and Open Doors

Mike Schrage, Executive Director

Many stories illustrate how God has gone before us in the completion of a template and 24 language versions of The Global Gospel (TGG). For security reasons, I will be a bit vague with this story about the newest version. Recently, a ministry partner wrote,

“We started yesterday, and everything went very well. The voice talent was from North Korea. He escaped more than 10 years ago and is very passionate about doing this project. One of the beautiful things about working with him is that he is using a North Korean accent for the recording. The words are pronounced in a way so they are clearly understood there. I am thankful he can speak Mandarin; that’s how we communicate. He learned Mandarin when he escaped to China and lived there for several years. God is blessing us with this project, and I am very pleased with how it is coming together.”

Did you catch that? They’re working together using Mandarin to record the Korean version of TGG. The narrator has risked much and illustrates the truth that “obedience when it’s hard is the greatest obedience of all.”

The obedience of these two men will allow millions in a difficult to reach part of the world to have access to the simple stories of Jesus. No door is closed so tightly that God cannot open it!
