Pray for Uganda

Even though Idi Amin’s dictatorship over Uganda ended in 1979, the pain and scars left by his rule run deep. This man is known in history as one of the most brutal and murderous rulers of all time. Uganda is healing, but this nation needs our prayers.

  • Only 4% of the population is over the age of 55.
  • 1.5 million people are living with HIV and AIDS.
  • 12 million people do not have access to a safe water source.
  • 18 million people have no sanitation services.

However, there is hope! The spiritual horizon is bursting with opportunities. GNPI opened a regional center in Mbale, Uganda, in 2010. In the four years that center has been operational, partnerships have been formed with a passionate team of missionaries, as well as with two local colleges. GNPI-Uganda is working side by side with these educational institutions to train and create resources for Ugandan Christians to use as they bring hope to their people.

Join us in praying for Uganda.

Discovering Their Creator

by Tom Nutt, Director of Operations

From time to time, I am privileged to travel to various places around the world. I’m blessed to see how others live and worship, and often how they struggle, persevere, and survive.

Discovering Their Creatora

Southeast Asia is no exception. While many there live under difficult circumstances and stressful conditions, a common thread you’ll find is an ongoing search for acceptance, love, and comfort in the belief in a higher being. Who and how we worship and the rituals we go through vary greatly, but the desire is the same.

Discovering Their Creatorb

At the core of Buddhism, the dominant religion in SE Asia, is the belief that there is one true god. I am not a Buddhism expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I am told that if you can journey through history to show the lineage of Jesus Christ, you will have no problem in helping Buddhists discover who the one true God really is!

Discovering Their Creator

It’s true, I am not the expert, but GNPI does have experts working hard to impact the lives of people living in these far corners of the world. Earlier this year I watched people worship and celebrate 10 years of success in producing over 100 different media projects. These projects reach into the lives and hearts of people in SE Asia to help them discover their Creator, the Instigator of grace. This discovery brings peace to those who accept it. There is a capable, vibrant team working hard on your behalf to reach young and old alike.

Discovering Their Creatord

Solar Kits are also taking materials to remote areas where there is no electricity. After demonstrating the Solar Kit to a group of leaders one day, a man approached me and said he had something to share. He explained that his tribe is in one of the most remote areas in the hills to the north. He traveled to the city 40 years earlier for education. While there, he learned about Jesus Christ and became his follower.

After finishing his studies, he taught in public schools and returned regularly to his tribe to share the Gospel. Often he would lie awake nights trying to figure out how to reach his people more effectively with the Message. He knows how to teach and knows the Scriptures, but went on to say, “Today you have made my dream come true! With this kit, I can take The Global Gospel and other materials to them in their language, and they can see for themselves the story of Christ! They will understand the message better!”

Discovering Their Creatore

The people of SE Asia are searching. Would you pray that they will discover their Creator?

Prayers & Praises

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” — Romans 10:11-15

A Request from Rockville!
The Source of Love movie is scheduled to be shown on May 4 at a community event to celebrate Asian heritage in Rockville, MD. This film is about an Asian family that discovers hope. It was released in 2005. Praise God that this program is still being used and for this opportunity.

On the Border!
NOMaD Coordinator Jason Miller says, “Pray for the safety of the NOMaD team in Donetsk, Ukraine. Donetsk is close to the Russian border, and it is one of the key cities right in the heart of all of the conflict.”

Jesca of GNPI-Uganda shares, “We have been helping the Livingstone International University (LIU) students with a short movie project for their class. The project is about a careless student who was expelled from the university. The title of the movie is Cheating Boyfriend.”

Seeking God’s Wisdom!
Nenette Pacoli of GNPI-Philippines asks for prayer for wisdom as she rewrites the WWJD script for the Sexual Identity episode. After some feedback, they are planning a second part for this program to make a clear stand. Nenette writes, “Thank you for your persistence in praying.”

Feedback from Puerto Rico!
Carlos Perez, campus minister of Puerto Rico Christian School, writes about some GNPI materials that he requested last year. He said, “We have finished the first series, How to Be a Better Leader. We have learned a lot with the spiritual content that Dr. Alan Ahlgrim presents in each lesson. The comments and participation of Board members made it even more interesting. Praise God! In addition, we used this series at the Vega Baja Church of Christ. The feedback by our brothers in Christ at Vega Baja has been good. We plan to start another series, How to Be an Effective Church Leader, by Sam Stone. I believe it will prove very helpful as there is much material to cover.”

Pray for Mexico

Mexico is home to one GNPI regional center and one NOMaD team. These teams of dedicated Christians are working hard to create culturally relevant media that will bring the Good News of Jesus to their people.

GNPI-Mexico launched an Internet radio station last fall, and it is gaining traction. They have recently added a live, evangelistic program that airs from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They are having such a good response and hope to add another day soon. If you would like to tune in online, here is a link:

Please feel free to share that link with your Spanish-speaking friends!

We want to offer this video to you to help you to pray for Mexico.

Prayers & Praises

“In Christ, we speak before God with sincerity, like men sent from God.” — 2 Corinthians 2:12-17

“We Are Speechless!”
Jeff Silkwood of GNPI-Thailand says, “We can see how God is already working here in Chiang Mai, and we are amazed that we were led to meet a pastor with several of our same interests and passions. One goal for this church is to reach out to the community and villages in the mountains. This pastor wants to show us the villages throughout Thailand. Some of these villages are Christian and some are non-Christian. When he heard about the Solar Kit, the pastor thought it would be a wonderful benefit and tool for spreading the Gospel in the villages of Thailand. We are speechless to see how God is moving after only 5 days of being here!”

An Exciting Day!
Manee Massey of GNPI-Damoh, India, writes, “Today was an exciting day. We invited a number of families from the local Christian community to have a discussion on the problems faced by families and married couples in India. Forty-eight people from different walks of life came from a variety of situations and participated in the two-hour discussion. During this time, they brainstormed and reflected on numerous problems facing families that they had observed and experienced. We have come up with a list of 33 problems that families face. The next step is to meet with a writer and create scripts for 13 episodes for future productions. Please pray that this meeting will lead us to develop some valuable new resources and partnerships.”

Opportunities to Share Christ!
TP of GNPI-SE Asia says, “We have completed a project on the resurrection of Christ. We have been sharing it this month. In addition, we received a request from the A people to produce The Global Gospel in their language, so we are working on the preliminary details. Thank you very much for your prayers.”

NOMaD Migration!
NOMaD Coordinator Jason Miller says, “We have some NOMaD team members preparing for their furloughs. Habacuc Diaz and his family from our team in Chile and Jeff Frazee and his family from our team in Mali will be traveling soon. Please pray for their final preparations, safe travels, and God’s provision for them.”

Jesus, Greatest of All!
Jesca of GNPI-Uganda shares, “We have a new music project to record this month. The artist is Lead Atute. The song is called Jesus, Greatest of All. It is our prayer that God would open doors for more projects and for more people to come to know Christ.”

Praying for Ishmael’s Tribe

Have you visited the Prayercast Website? If not, you should take some time and look around. The videos there are free to download and they would be a fantastic resource for your Sunday school class, mission team, or entire church.

This video is not linked to a specific country, but the “people group” who are the descendants of Ishmael. The prayercast Website page that is home for this video starts out with the following:

“Despite birthing many of the earliest Christian churches, the Middle East and North Africa have endured centuries with little or no access to the Gospel. Today, four of every five Muslims – 20% of the world’s population – have never heard the Good News of Jesus Christ.  It is estimated that only 10% of missionaries are working among Muslims, with some estimates as low as 1%. This translates to roughly one missionary for every 1 million Muslims.  And yet despite all this, recent decades have seen an unprecedented Christian witness among the Arab world.  More Muslims have become followers of Jesus Christ in the last 25 years than in the previous 1250 years!”

Watch this prayer video, and then click here if you would like to read the rest of the information about the tribe of Ishmael.

Lord, There is None Like You!

The situation in Russia, Ukraine, and the now Russian occupied Crimea, is less and less in the news. That’s how it is with news; a new story comes along to take the place of  what WAS the hottest story, and we start to forget. For those in Crimea and Ukraine, it is still very much the main story.

Here are some photos taken in Kiev, Ukraine, that you probably didn’t see in the news. Imagine if this were the capital city of your home country.

The regional center for GNPI is located in Simferopol, an 11-hour drive from Kiev. Simferopol is in Crimea, now part of Russia. So, in essence, the GNPI regional center is now in Russia. As for our staff there, they are not just okay, they are doing well! GNPI staff members in Joplin visited with the team via Skype call just last week. It was wonderful to see their faces and hear their faith as they explained their circumstances. They are cheerful and awaiting instructions as to how they can become legal citizens. In the midst of all this they continue to produce their latest music video called Take My Life and Let it Be. How appropriate.

In an email Sergei sent this week he said,

“The Nieuwenhuis (Novy Dom) Training Center construction is going on and we even have some booking applications from Russia already! Looks like God has a much more far reaching plan on reaching Russians through our ministry then we did.

“While a lot is uncertain, we do not neglect any opportunity to serve. It was a special blessing for me to have a conference on the topic of seeking God’s will in times of trouble with a group of young Christian professionals and to speak to a Christian youth club. What a great encouragement it is to see young people passionate for spreading the truth of God in the midst of the storms of life! The fields are white. Troubles in the world make people look for the hope beyond it. People are thirsty for the truth, and looks like God uses the situation powerfully.”

Psalm 86:8-9 (NIV) says, “Among the gods there is none like you, Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord; they will bring glory to your name.”

Please pray for wisdom and continued safety for our co-workers in Russia. Pray for God’s power to be displayed among the nations!

Prayers & Praises

“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.” — Titus 3:4-5

“I Want God to Use This!”
Communications Coordinator Marsha Bacon is undergoing surgery on April 16 for colon cancer. She is trusting in God’s plan and promises. Marsha says, “I want God to use this!” In addition, Karolyn Schrage, wife of Executive Director Mike Schrage, is having neck surgery on April 17. Please join our staff in praying for great peace and full recovery for Marsha and Karolyn.

Solar Kits Going Out From Mbale!
Jesca of GNPI-Uganda shares, “We received a new list of people who are willing to be coordinators for the Solar Kits. Our coworker, Stephen, trained them a couple weeks ago. The coordinators will start taking the Solar Kits starting this week. Please pray for hearts to be open to receive the Gospel.”

“Thirsty for the Truth!”
Sergei Golovin of GNPI-Ukraine says, “While a lot is uncertain yet, we do not neglect any opportunity to serve. It was a special blessing for me to attend a conference on seeking God’s will in times of trouble with a group of young Christian professionals. What great encouragement it is to see young people passionate for spreading the truth of God in the midst of the storms of life! The fields are white. Troubles in the world make people look for the hope beyond it. In addition, I have spoken at the Christian Youth Club recently. There are a lot of questions to which only God can provide answers! People are thirsty for the truth, and God uses the situation powerfully. We definitely have work to do here. Please pray with us for the Lord’s vision and guidance during this transformation period.”

New Project in Pachuca!
NOMaD Coordinator Jason Miller reports, “Sergio’s team in Pachuca, Mexico, is working on a project on the harmful effects of pornography that they hope to share at a big concert. Pray that they can get the project completed in time and that it can make a big impact at that event.”

“Ready With Easter Programming!”
Manee Massey of GNPI-Damoh, India, says, “We are ready with Easter programming. We have used visuals from The Global Gospel and a message by Dr. Ajai Lall. It will be broadcast on a national television station near Easter to approximately 60-70 million people.” Praise God for this great outreach opportunity!

Prayers & Praises

“But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.” — Psalm 33:11

A Line of People Waiting to Get Baptized!
Simmi Dhingra of GNPI-Chandigarh, India, writes, “Mr. I, a convert from Islam, shared his experience of how the Solar Kit enhanced the understanding and learning ability of his audience in the slum areas of K and B, where most of the people are uneducated. His members were from a Hindu background. His regular members who attended church every Sunday were 70 in total. As a result of the Gospel message shared through the Solar Kits, there is now a line of people waiting to get baptized.”

A New Release!
Gustavo Velázquez of GNPI-Mexico says, “Next week the short film Raziel’s Story will be shown and distributed.” The film is a testimony of the way God can redeem and transform the life of a down-and-out addict. Raziel’s powerful testimony demonstrates the dangers, attitudes, circumstances, and consequences of such a life. Please pray that God will draw young people to this event, so they can see the lasting hope that Christ offers.

An Answered Prayer!
Director of Operations Tom Nutt had a chance to demonstrate the Solar Kit to a group of people in SE Asia. One man who works in the northern villages became very excited about this tool. He said, “Today, you’ve answered my prayer. My dream is to share Christ with my village. For all these years, I have been looking for a way to get into the northern villages where I grew up. I believe this is the tool that will make that possible.” Please pray that God will make himself known and work in the lives of the people in these northern villages.

Never in My Wildest Dreams!
Nenette Pacoli of GNPI-Philippines shares, “I never in my wildest dreams thought that we would be showing WWJD programs to ‘captive audiences’ in schools, colleges, and youth groups. On TV, we just rely on ratings and hope that people get the message, but now the Lord has given us front row seats on how he changes lives through our materials! At the university, I saw understanding in the students’ faces as they watched Purity. It was almost like they had been liberated! We thank God for opening these new doors for us. We hope to continue to go to colleges, schools, and churches to offer our materials for their use.”

“A realistic way of getting the Word of God into their hands.”
Eddie, a Christian worker in South Sudan writes, “Even in the poorest places, you can normally find that many people have or share cell phones. People go to shops to load music onto their SD cards in their phones and pass it along using Bluetooth. Recently our team has loaded audio Bibles, Walking with Jesus films, GNPI films, and The Jesus Film in different languages onto SD cards in about 6 of the local languages, and there has been a great response! Money exchangers, police officers, border officials, teenagers, shopkeepers, taxi drivers, neighbors, and more have all been excited to receive the Word! Many have come back for more once they have listened to it and shared it! With an overall literacy rate of 27 percent, this audio form is a realistic way of getting the Word of God into their hands.”

Prayers & Praises

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10

Entering Hard Times!
Sergei Golovin of GNPI-Ukraine shares, “We need God’s peace in this troubled world and his guidance in the constantly changing situation. We trust in him and have to be wise enough to be ready for any upcoming change. After 20 plus years with Jesus, we just started to learn to live according to his Word in Matthew 6:34, ‘Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.’ ”

Isaac Masiga of GNPI-Kenya says, “We are yet to start The Global Gospel in Swahili because of the delay from Biblica in sending us the right text. Pray with us for a faster solution to this issue.”

Ready to Begin!
David Lall of GNPI-Damoh, India, shares, “We are ready to begin work on The Global Gospel in Bhojpuri. It is the language spoken by 40 million people. It is one of the national languages of Nepal, Guyana, Fiji, and Suriname. The strange thing about Bhojpuri is that it is not only spoken in two states in India but also in many Caribbean islands. This language is so popular that many movies in Bollywood are made in Bhojpuri.”

“Praying That Christ Shows Through Us!”
Jeff Silkwood of GNPI-Thailand shares, “We are starting to get more comfortable with the culture of Thailand. We are blessed by all the prayers and encouragement from our family and friends. We are so thankful for the Lord and the comfort he has given our family. We pray that we are a light in this dark world. We pray that Christ is shown through us and that we can help more people come to know Jesus as Savior.” Jeff is the son of Regional Director Tom Silkwood. Jeff will serve as communication coordinator in Chiang Mai as well as being involved in Solar Kit assembly and distribution.

 A New Sister in Christ!
TP of GNPI-SE Asia shares the following testimony of how God is working through the materials produced in SE Asia to strengthen churches and transform lives. Mrs. D says, “The evangelist taught me from the little book called A Handbook for Evangelism. He showed me Scriptures and read them to me. Now I understand that the Church was established by Jesus. He bought it by his blood. I accepted Jesus as my Savior and was baptized. Now I am happy to know that Jesus is the only Savior and the only way to go to heaven. I feel like a new person.”
