Give God Your “Little” Dreams

GNPI-Philippines has always had dreams. Sometimes, though, big dreams start out small, literally. For seventeen years, Nenette Pacoli and her team in the Philippines worked out of the basement of Nenette’s home. This small space, however, did not keep them from dreaming big for God. He truly honors simple obedience in the “little things.”

For 17 years they produced Asin at Ilaw (Salt and Light) from that basement space and it was broadcasted on cable TV. Then, God brought new office space and it seemed like the perfect time to revamp Asin at Ilaw. Much thought and prayer went into both transitions: new office space and a retooled show. Both would help them stay culturally relevant.

After much prayer, a new show was born. WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) was the next dream that Nenette wanted to make into reality.

WWJD has been in production barely 2 years, but God is taking it places no one could have dreamed. The show unabashedly tackles hot-button topics such as purity, homosexuality, integrity, and dignity. Carlos, the host, begins each episode of WWJD with “man on the street” interviews. As viewers begin to think, the focus is narrowed to guests who talk about the issue from a spiritual perspective.

WWJD1

The main viewing platform for WWJD is online, through Facebook and YouTube. The show has also been broadcasted on ETN, which reaches a potential audience of 91 million viewers in the Philippines. And while scores of people have the ability to see these thought-provoking episodes, we wanted to bring you this story that shows WWJD’s impact involving a local professor.

Last summer, for an episode on dignity, WWJD interviewed Professor Rowel, a sociology professor. When the show was ready for broadcast, out of appreciation for his participation in the episode, they gave him a copy. A few months ago, Nenette learned how the professor is using his copy of Dignity. We think you’ll be surprised what happened.

We asked Nenette to give you some more insight into WWJD and the surprise of finding out what God has done with their little dream.

Professor Rowell has made WWJD a “must watch,” then his classes discuss the episode. And, he has downloaded the Purity episode and is using it the same way. He said the response from the students borders on shock because no one else teaches them the right values about sex in such an open manner. To top it off, the college library has asked for their own copies so they can recommend WWJD to other professors.

Whatever your “little” dream is, give it to God and see what He will do. Will you join us in praying that young lives will be impacted for Christ through these WWJD episodes?

Prayers & Praises

“You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.” — James 5:8

“The Church Can Stand Strong!”
Tom Silkwood of GNPI-Thailand writes, “My prayer request is about Thailand. The north is calm and without incident, but the south is a real concern. Please pray that the Lord will lay his Spirit on the hearts of the people and that the church can stand strong for what is good and right. Thailand’s hope isn’t political, it’s Jesus.”

Almost 20 Villages!”
Simmi Dhingra of GNPI-Chandigarh, India, shares,“During the Christmas time we showed almost 20 villages and thousands of people the Gospel stories through our Solar Kits that were provided by GNPI. Thank you, GNPI. This was really helpful since most villages do not have electricity, and we were able to use the Solar Kits to visualize the Gospel for the people into areas that are harder to access.”

Outreach to Intellectuals!
TheQuran.com App has reached 9,616 total downloads. Upgrades two and three are being prepared. An App to reach out to Muslim women is also being considered. Praise God for new opportunities to share the truth all over the world.

A Challenge to the African Church!
On Field Media and GNPI-Kenya partnered to produce A Distant Boat, a movie that invites the African Church to embrace their unique opportunity to reach Africa’s unreached people. Isaac Masiga of GNPI-Kenya explains, “We have about 900 people groups in Africa who still don’t know about Jesus. For this reason, we needed to be very strategic. We needed extensive research because we wanted to reach not just Kenya where the movie was shot, but the entire African continent. We premiered the movie in October 2013. The movie was well received in the theaters and is continuing to get a lot of attention. It is very popular in churches especially, based on its quality and content. For now we are planning to translate the movie into other languages starting with Swahili and French. It is our prayer that this movie will continue to impact the African Church and challenge them to become a major force in the future by sending people to the mission field; for the harvest is plenty and the laborers are few.”

A Reason to Celebrate!
Director of Operations Tom Nutt has enjoyed visiting the young, creative team in GNPI-SE Asia. Tom says, “They have created an excellent music video and want to produce more as soon as possible.” International Director Bob Sartoris says there is a strong Business as Missions model here. Bob says, “Many see having media training as very practical here for young people. There have been lots of government changes. Books are no longer censored. There is still some censuring over media, but it is getting better.” May God bless their next 10 years of ministry!

Your Sins are Gone…Now What?

by Tom Silkwood, Regional Director for GNPI-Thailand

Tom-SilkwoodSins Are Gone

Can you imagine being Asian and living your whole life in bondage, worshiping idols and demons? Then, a traveling preacher comes. He shares the most fantastic story you have ever heard; there is a God who loves you, who can forgive your sins, free you from the bondage of the demonic world, and who will adopt you as his very own child.

This is typical of how lives are changed in Asia. There is such an excitement about being freed from the bondage of the spirit world, a world of servitude to evil spirits, poverty, and doom. Now for the first time the burden of your guilt and sins are lifted, you are suddenly free, but…

You are now God’s child, longing to know him. There are only a few preachers, teachers, or Bibles where you can learn about your Heavenly Father. You know there are schools where you could study and learn about Jesus, but you are too poor to go. Fortunately, some do get to go and learn, but the majority only dream. If only you could go to one of those schools and learn more about Jesus.

This is the scenario we have in Asia. Thousands have come to Christ, but resources are so limited. I have gone to churches where the only Bible they have is in tatters, stacked lovingly with a rock on top to keep pages from flying off in a breeze. How can these people grow without help? Strange because you can find television sets and DVD players, and most people have cellphones, but access to good Bible learning is rare.

This was how the BEC program was born. BEC stands for Biblical Extension Courses and it is our attempt to address this huge problem. People need (and WANT) to learn about God, but due to lack of resources they can’t. Thus we started BEC. If the students can’t come to school, we send the school to the students. Our best native Bible teachers come to our studio in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and we record their teaching. It is then sent out to the villages in Thailand, Burma, and even China.

BECI believe that the ultimate use of technology is to share the Gospel. BEC is doing that today and has grown beyond our wildest dreams. We need your prayers, so would you pray about BEC? Pray that the people of Asia might know and grow closer to Jesus.

Prayers & Praises

“Praise the Lord . . . who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.”— Psalm 103:4

A New Release! Isaac Masiga of GNPI-Kenya says, “We have just released the Video Loop IV e-book. Thanks a lot for your prayers for developing the DETOX series. Another prayer need is that we are still in the pre-production process of The Global Gospel in Swahili. There are still some things which are not quite in place, and we would like for God to hasten them. Thank God with us that the auditions went well and the cast is ready to start the project.”

“Let’s Do It!” David Lall of GNPI-Damoh, India, writes, “We have received a request to complete and send 1000 copies of the Malayalam version of The Global Gospel in time for a Christian leaders gathering this month. This could be ‘the’ opportunity to spread the word about The Global Gospel in Malayalam. My first impression was, ‘No way.’ Then I saw the potential and thought, ‘What an opportunity!’ This means that we need to finish the project and print and copy and hand deliver the packages to Kerala from Delhi. I called a meeting of the staff. To my surprise everyone said, ‘Let’s do it!’ They are willing to work day and night to finish it. It will be quite a challenge so we need lots and lots of prayers.”

Praying for a Spiritual Breakthrough! Bob Gurwell of GNPI-Mexico shares that they have been waiting nearly a year for permission from the United Bible Society for the Spanish version of the Bible used in The Global Gospel. Please pray for a spiritual breakthrough to release this resource to those who can benefit from it.

Violent Protests! Sergei Golovin of GNPI-Ukraine comments on the recent videos of the violence and fires shown on the national news, “Can you believe this is downtown Kiev? Please pray.” Executive Director Mike Schrage adds that while the news reports tell a story of stunning violence, four young Ukrainians who participated in a NOMaD training several months ago have a plan. Mike says, “Please listen to these young people share their hearts on how they want to use media to reach their generation with the Good News.” (Watch their first video!)

Opening Our Offices! We are excited about the Open House events on February 20 at 7:00 p.m. and February 25 at noon. Please pray that the weather will not keep guests from attending and that those who come will experience wonderful fellowship as they hear about the ways God is accelerating global evangelism through media and technology.

Intentions of the Heart

The news coming out of Ukraine is grim these days, but take a look at this video.

This is the first video produced by four people who attended the NOMaD training in Donetsk last summer. Because of their Russian accents, you may not understand every word they speak, but the intentions of their hearts are pretty clear.

Would you pray as we seek sponsorship for this team?

Prayers & Praises

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” — Colossians 3:17

Celebrating a Decade of Work!
Praise God for the work of GNPI-SE Asia for the last 10 years! TP and others (including International Director Bob Sartoris and Director of Operations Tom Nutt) are taking time to thank God and celebrate this milestone. TP asked that we join him in praying that God would continue to give them knowledge and wisdom to touch the hearts of people as they prepare productions.

Mixing Work and Pleasure!
Director of Development Matt Brock writes from GNPI-Mexico, “It has been a pleasure to meet and spend time with our talented staff here.” Director of Operations Tom Nutt and a group of students from the University of Missouri made good progress on a project of adding some interior walls at the office in Piedras Negras.

Open Doors!
Please pray for GNPI in Joplin, MO, as we prepare to host two Open House events this month on February 20 at 7:00 p.m. and February 25 at noon. Then we will offer three Vision Night locations to provide a chance for ministry partners to invest and to learn more information about accelerating global evangelism through media and technology in 2014.

“A Difficult Topic to Maneuver!”
GNPI-Philippines started 2014 by showing the Independence episode of WWJD. Regional Director Nenette Pacoli asks that we continue to lift them up as they address the topic of homosexuality for one of the next programs. Nenette says, “We are looking for people who would be willing to give their testimonies. It is a difficult topic to maneuver. We really need wisdom on this one.”

Revealing God’s Priorities!
Executive Director Mike Schrage and International Director Bob Sartoris have just returned from north Africa for some important meetings. Mike said the meetings were “incredibly helpful” to attend. Praise God for their safety and for revealing his priorities for projects and funding.

Prayers & Praises

. . . Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.” — Matthew 6:9

Transitioning to Thailand!
Jeff Silkwood is moving forward with plans to work at GNPI-Thailand. Jeff is the son of Regional Director Tom Silkwood and his wife Gayle. Jeff will have an important role in communicating with us on behalf of that regional center. It is a goal for each regional center to be able to find a person like Jeff. Please pray for their family to have peace, strength, and wisdom in all the details of relocating to Chiang Mai.

A Pattern for Ministry!
NOMaD Coordinator Jason Miller recently met a man in Indonesia with a great passion and vision for creating Christian media. The man has started two companies and has four studios in Indonesia. He is working on starting another studio in South Africa. The man told Jason he had been inspired when he visited the GNPI offices in Joplin, Missouri, more than 20 years ago. Praise God for blessing his people with strategic partnerships again and again!

Return Trip!
Vince Vigil of GNPI-Uganda shares, “We need to identify more evangelists to take the Solar Kits to the villages.” Please pray for safe travel for the Vigil family as they prepare to return to Uganda very soon.

Important Deadlines and Decisions!
TP of GNPI-SE Asia writes, “Please pray that we can duplicate and print The Ten Keys of Knowing the Eternal God as soon as possible. Two of our evangelists told me that there are five people who have decided to follow Christ. They will be baptized soon. Thank you for your unceasing prayers.”

Reflections on 2013!
Sergei Golovin of GNPI-Ukraine says, “We praise the Lord for everything he is doing in our lives and the ministry. We thank God for keeping us safe as we travel teaching and preaching, for surrounding us with like-minded people in the difficult task of challenging the post-communist education system, for giving us wisdom as we speak at multiple teachers and pastors conferences, for guiding us through camps for both children and adults, for helping us complete a series of Christian textbooks on science, for bringing teachers from all over the former Soviet Union to the Visual Media Aid Training Camp, for encouraging us with an award for the music video we produced at a Christian media contest, for giving us an opportunity to continue the construction of our greatest dream with the MultiPurpose Resource Center. We thank him especially for faithful co-workers, friends, and helpers in the labor of his field!”

Solar Kits in Cottage Meetings

We regularly highlight this amazing technology tool: the Solar Kit. They truly provide the opportunity to take culturally relevant media anywhere in the world. As long as the sun shines, Solar Kits can present the clear message of the Gospel to audiences that, many times, have never before heard it.

Most often, when we talk about Solar Kits, we feature stories from Africa. But this story comes from Chandigarh, India.

Manee Ross, regional director for GNPI-Damoh, India, is building Solar Kits to deploy in that country, a few of which have been distributed in northern India near Chandigarh. One of the evangelists, who uses a Solar Kit for local cottage meetings,  shared his experience.

MANEE“The Solar Kit provides an excellent assistance while preaching the Gospel. People comprehend better with live demonstrations and illustrations. It is especially the children who tend to be eager to unfold what the team has in store for them.

At one of the prayer meetings, the entire family has accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior and is ready to be baptized. Despite all the odds, the team is relentless to go ahead each day, to preach to different people, and to hasten the Kingdom of God.

North India Christian Mission (NCIM) requests all our friends in the US to remember them in your prayers, all the evangelists of NICM who are working in different areas reaching out to the lost ones.”

Please take a moment and lift up these men in Chandigarh who are continually looking for opportunities to proclaim the word of God to so many who have never heard!

 Learn more about Solar Kits.

It costs $1,000 to get one of these tools into the hands of a Christian worker. If you already know you want to help fund one, your gift of any amount would be a blessing!

Prayers & Praises

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ ” — 2 Corinthians 12:9

“A Stable Platform!”
Simmi, wife of Deepak Dhingra of GNPI-Chandigarh, India, has released a video update. Simmi says, “While Deepak has passed away due to an illness at the end of 2013, the ministry work has flowed smoothly. Deepak left us with a stable platform to bring the Gospel of Christ to the unreached. This media ministry creates Christian songs, sermons, Bible studies, and children’s stories that are distributed freely to Christians and non-Christians alike. Through GNPI we have impacted many for Christ and promoted the Gospel to areas that we could never have reached physically. Thank you for supporting us.”

“An Incredibly Mild Winter!”
Praise God for answering prayers for a mild winter. Sergei Golovin of GNPI-Ukraine says, “It has been an incredibly mild winter and construction on the Multi-Purpose Resource Center is moving forward.”

Life of Christ Lessons!
Vince Vigil of GNPI-Uganda says his team is working on the 7 lessons of the Life of Christ video series. Vince said they need God’s wisdom for the next series in the Digital African Studies by Extension (DASE) project and for deciding who will teach it.

Partnering Work in the Philippines!
Nenette Pacoli of GNPI-Philippines shares, “I will be doing some ‘partnering’ work and will offer our materials to churches, organizations, and schools. Please pray that I would be able to go to the right people. I know the Lord has gone before us. Thanks again, we deeply appreciate your prayers.”

Starting A Sabbatical!
International Director Bob Sartoris writes, “The last few years have been extremely hectic for me as I’ve traveled nearly a million miles around the world. The GNPI Board has approved a sabbatical time for me until early April. I plan to use this time to pray and reflect on my years of ministry and how God has been leading me through it all. I’ll also be doing some writing, which is one of my most fulfilling passions in life, and seeking God’s direction on a couple of future projects. I would covet your prayers that this time away allows me to rest, be reinvigorated, and replenished so that I can be even more productive in the years ahead.”

Prayers & Praises

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” — 1 John 3:1 (NIV)

New NOMaD Travels!
NOMaD Coordinator Jason Miller is helping train NOMaD teams in India and surveying areas in Indonesia for the next few weeks. Please pray for his safety, strength, and wisdom with this strenuous schedule. Executive Director Mike Schrage writes, “I think it is the kindness of God that Jason’s trip will include the most populous Hindu nation of India and the most populous Islamic nation of Indonesia as in 2014, GNPI puts into place our strategic plan!”

Heading South!
Director of Development Matt Brock and Director of Operations Tom Nutt are visiting GNPI-Mexico this week. Tom and a team of students from the University of Missouri will help construct some interior walls, and Matt will have his first chance to get to know the staff in that office. Please pray for a safe and fruitful trip.

“Truly fascinating!”
Lena of GNPI-Ukraine shares, “It is a great honor for me to be part of the GNPI family. The work we are all doing worldwide is truly fascinating, and being part of it is the most exciting thing! We are working on the music video, Come Thou Fount. We are working on the concept of the next music video also. When we are done with this one, it won’t take long until we start shooting the next one. Please continue praying for Ukraine. Thank you so much!”

A Visit with Vince!
Vince Vigil of GNPI-Uganda is in Joplin for a short time. He and his staff request prayer for wisdom and efficiency as they move forward with several projects in 2014. Vince and his family have a busy month of travel planned to visit ministry partners before they return to Uganda. Please pray for their safe travel and good meetings.

New Episodes Emerging!
Nenette Pacoli of GNPI-Philippines shares, “We had a staff meeting on Monday, and we agreed to produce three more episodes of WWJD in the next few months. Please pray because the next episode is about homosexuality masquerading as ‘gender identity.’ Please pray for resource people and people who would share their testimonies. Pray for protection for the staff in every way.”
