Dr. Sergei Golovin

Dr. Sergei GolovinDr. Sergei Golovin was born into an atheistic family in the Soviet Union and received “a materialistic education.” He graduated from the physical sciences department of Simferopol State University, specializing in laser optics, and later completed post-graduate studies in geophysics. Sergei has headed geophysical expeditions in Crimea, Caucasus and on the island of Spitsbergen. His works have been published in academic magazines, and he has patented inventions in geophysics and laser optics. He serves as a visiting professor for two Crimean Universities, and as chairman for the Christian Students Fellowship of Ukraine and the Simferopol Christian Church Council. Sergei and his wife, Olga, have two children: Zhenya and Dasha.

During his research, Sergei came to understand, in his words, “the materialistic approach does not fit reality, and that the Bible provides the only one true foundation for any kind of knowledge about God’s creation.” By science, Sergei came to the Bible, and by the Bible, Sergei came to Christ. Later, he came to the conclusion that in post-Soviet society, where people have been indoctrinated in materialism and worshipped science for several generations, the way he came into a relationship with the Lord could be a very effective way to win others for Christ.

Sergei left his research activity in 1991 and founded Christian Center for Science and Apologetics, a non-denominational ministry to the subcultures of intellectuals unreached by the Gospel. Its mission statement: INTRODUCING the Truth to skeptics; STRENGTHENING the saints in their confidence in the Truth; EQUIPPING God’s people to be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks the reason for their hope. The ministry publishes materials on issues of science and faith and their relationship. Sergei’s activities include arranging and delivering lectures, and leading seminars and discussions in universities, schools, and colleges.

In 1997, with the production of Sergei’s Science in the Bible video series, he began a relationship with Good News Productions, International. That relationship has led to the establishment of the Ukraine regional center with him serving as regional director of the ministry, overseeing the work of the production studio in Simferopol. His extensive video and audio work in the area of creation science for Russian-speaking people has been an effective tool for sharing the Gospel. His knowledge of observed science, his passion for the Word, and his understanding of a mindset based in generations of atheism and materialism bring an invaluable perspective to media designed for the peoples of the former Soviet Union.
