Hope For Sudan
written by Mike Schrage, Director of Development

David and Kennedy are missionaries in Sudan Sudan has had 30 years of war with millions killed and millions more displaced. There has been lots of hopelessness in the past—BUT a new day is dawning in Southern Sudan. David Bikokwa and Kennedy Obura are two servants in God’s plan of hope for that country.

David and Kennedy are Kenyan friends of mine. Over fifteen years ago, as a part of the Kitale Mission Team, I helped to train them to become church planters and missionaries. Some of their teaching came through GNPI filmstrip productions. David and Kennedy also learned the power of the visual and the importance of cultural relevancy by using GNPI solar packs and evangelistic productions in the churches that they were leading and starting in Kenya.

In partnership with the Mbale, Uganda Mission Team, they moved to Sudan two years ago to serve as missionaries. These are Kenyan Christians, moving their families to Sudan to live as missionaries! They have diligently taught, served, traveled, and literally risked their lives. They continue using GNPI solar packs to draw and train Sudanese listeners.

Today, nine emerging congregations in Nimule, Sudan exist due to GNPI partnering with David and Kennedy and their families. They have been called by God to train, as GNPI has been called by the Lord to tool this new missionary force of outreach in war-torn Sudan. Nationals always know best, and that is why GNPI is putting an office in Mbale,Uganda—to work with guys like David and Kennedy to accelerate evangelism in Sudan.
