Have You Heard?

I met a couple a few weeks ago, who just celebrated 61 years together! That’s amazing, but let me tell you what I found to be even more amazing. When I talked with their preacher recently, he shared that both of them are getting hard of hearing. They have intentionally not purchased hearing aids because of the high costs—up to $2,000 a piece! So they’ve been getting along. Recently someone mentioned that they could at least refurbish a unit that a friend no longer needed who had passed away.

Only A Candy Bar

World War II was raging, and the entire nation was at work. Factories had retooled, and were running full steam ahead. In one factory, two sisters sat, resting during a break. One suggested that they get a candy bar. The other stopped and reasoned that a candy bar wasn’t necessary, and if they saved their money it could be used in spreading the message of Christ around the world.

The elderly couple went slowly through the food line with their trays at the church building’s cafeteria. They ate in silence and listened with eagerness to the update about the ministry of Good News Productions, International. After the presentation they hurriedly came up to me, excited to share that they considered themselves “pioneers after a fashion” of the ministry of GNPI!

Idolatry!

These images have been made from every type of material available, every shape and size imaginable, some having been made with great sacrifice and wealth. The difference between a carving or statue and an idol is the motive by which it is viewed.
