Music and the “Hook to the Book Plan!”
By Mike Schrage on
Music—nothing in our “inner most” or “gut” or “soul” resonates like it! Want to remember a scripture verse? Put it to music. Want to reminisce about when you were 17? Put on the music of that era! Want to connect with the heart of God? Sing with music and get lost in worship to Him! Worship in song is what the “man after God’s own heart” was good at! King David was #1 in his music world—just look at the list and depth of the Psalms!

Music Videos Shown All Over Africa
By Bob Sartoris on
Do you remember when M-TV first started broadcasting? At the time I thought it was something creative and exciting. Now, it’s deteriorated to erotic and vulgar videos that I hope my daughters never see! Many fear it’s too late to reclaim the minds of youth who are captivated by this stuff. Redeeming the Time
By Mike Schrage on
“Redeeming the time.” That phrase in the King James Version of Paul’s letters to the Ephesians (5:16) and Colossians (4:5) became incredibly clear to me this week in East Africa. Marty McFarland was a spunky missionary and working mother in Arusha, Tanzania. Her passion to tell people about Jesus was contagious. She and her husband Steve were “second termers” going to the mission field as second career people. They wanted to empower nationals with tools to enable them to make the most of the time. The McFarlands had been in Tanzania since 2000.

Dusty School And Orphans
By Mike Schrage on
I sat in the doorless school with three missionary colleagues and 25 “kids”. It was a reunion of the parentless. Actually they were adults now with babies on their laps, married and most with jobs. These were the kids of the Children’s Home in Kitale, an orphanage that was started in 1992 by my former mission team. Today, I sat in awe as I saw before my eyes transformation. Snotty kids were now leading in worship, little girls were now nursing mothers and bratty boys were now men of vision.

Strength in Leadership
By Ziden Nutt on

The semi-automatic weapons belched forth fire as the terrorists made the execution. The only dust that settled quickly was from the blood of one of God’s great servants - Simon Sithole. He fell to the ground and his earthly tabernacle gave up the spirit.

Where Are Your Headquarters?
By Ziden Nutt on
Though his physical stature was slight and frail, Chief Dandawa stood strong as a Paramount Chief in Zimbabwe. Under discussion on that tense day in September of 1961 was whether he would grant permission for us to live in his area and establish a Christian work. He explained that his people thought any white man would steal their wives and sell them as slaves. For some reason he acted as though he might be interested—as if he were looking for something. Then he asked two questions: (1) Where are your headquarters? And..

Benevolence or Evangelism
By Ziden Nutt on

The debate goes on! Is benevolent action social gospel? Or, is there a place for it in evangelism? A classic statement was made by Samuel Moffet, “There is nothing quite so crippling to evangelism and social action as to confuse them in definition or to separate them in practice.”
