What Is Larry King Raising Money For?
Written By: Mike Schrage

The earthquake in Haiti is a tragedy of the first order. Thousands killed, hundreds still dying every week and untold multitudes injured and/or missing. The lessons that the church should learn and that Larry King and other celebrities are not talking about are:

  1. The church should have worked harder so that more of those who perished would have been eternally ready to meet death.
  2. The church needs to act NOW to bring a spiritual component of faith along with the kind actions of giving to the residents of Haiti.
  3. Even in this tough economic climate, the world—and Americans in particular—have hit another higher gear in regards to their giving.

It reminded me of the challenges in Kenya surrounding giving by the local Kenyan churches. Kenyans insisted time and again that they were poor and that they could not give to the needs of the local church. And yet, when a death occurred, these same families would find a way, in some cases sacrificially giving the family cow to meet needs. The point—we all have resources within our control that we will release. It is just a matter of WHAT issue or priority or need will trigger us to sacrifically give more of those resources.

Granted the physical devastation in Haiti is unfathomable, but the starker reality is that thousands went into a Christ-less eternity. That’s the point I wish Larry King would talk about. But then, at least Larry and friends are acting and giving to alleviate pain and suffering. What are we, the church, doing for their souls—which is supposed to be our specialty?

A group from Arkansas will be traveling to Haiti in March on a medical mission trip. We are planning to send 2 Solar Media Cases with them. We get requests for Solar Media Cases on a consistent basis because there are many places in the world where electricity is not accessible. The power of visuals combined with Christ-centered materials enable these Solar Media Cases to create impact!
